About 'Life skills' initiative around the world:

 -

Of late you might have been hearing the word 'life-skills' education. Many school boards and universities are including life skills education into their curriculum. Many companies are training their employees on life skills.

In India CBSE board has made Life Skills training compulsory, and most other Boards are following it up. Engineering colleges are incorporating life skills training to ensure that students are made industry-ready; Bangalore University has made it compulsory for Arts, Science and Commerce students to study Life Skills in 4th Semester.

What is 'life skills' ?

Life skills are abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable humans to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of life. Life is dynamic which is full of constant changes, for which one is expected to be adaptable.

Life skills is a term used to describe a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable individuals and groups to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in daily life.

Most of us pocess many areas of life skills naturally, but there are many more skills for which we need to learn.

Life skills touch upon issues that are:

- real: they actually affect people’s lives

- topical

- sometimes sensitive: they can affect people on a personal level, especially when family or friends are involved

- often controversial: people disagree and hold strong opinions about them

ultimately moral:- they relate to what people think is right or wrong, good or bad, important or unimportant in society. (British council website).

Life skills have been identified by the World Health Organization (WHO) of United Nations as the most important learning and an asset to lead a fulfilling life.

The demand for the professionals to work in life skills is increasing day by day. Many prestigious corporate and business organisations are looking for soft-skills trained candidates.

Frameworks around life skills:

There are many international education and research organisations which have been working to frame life skills practices, famously these frameworks are known as SEL- (Socio-emotional learning).

The three widely acclaimed (Socio-emotional learning SEL) frameworks –

1. CASEL (Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning, USA),

2. SEAL (Social and Emotional aspects of Learning, UK) and

3. WHO (Life skills program),

all have contributed significantly toward the compilation of the Integrated  SEL Framework. Few experts have found that the CASEL's 5 competencies were found to be comprehensive and reflecting in the other frameworks.

Improving your perspective-taking skills can help you build stronger relationships:

 -  Ever notice how sometimes it feels like other people just don't get you? Or maybe you've had that feeling about someone else? A lot of this comes down to something called "perspective-taking"—basically, the ability to see things from someone else's point of view. It's like trying to walk in their shoes for a bit. But it turns out, this isn't always easy, and many of us struggle with it. So, why is it so hard to see things from another person's perspective, and what can we do about it? What is Perspective-taking: Perspective-taking is the ability to understand another person's thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It is an essential skill for building empathy, compassion, and understanding in our relationships. However, many people struggle with perspective-taking. There are several reasons why this might be the case. Why some people lack it: One reason is that people may be too focused on their own thoughts and feelings. When we are constan...

We, the people who were born between 1940-1985 are the blessed ones. Our life is a living proof of simplicity and tranquillity:

-  What a beautiful answer!  Comparison between two  "Generations" ....... Everyone must read 👌👌 A youngster asked his father: "How did you people live before with- No access to technology No aeroplanes No internet No computers No dramas No TVs No air cons No cars No mobile phones?" Our life is a living proof: 👉 While playing and riding bicycles, we never wore helmets. 👉 After school, we played until dusk. We never watched TV. 👉 We played with real friends, not internet friends. 👉 If we ever felt thirsty, we drank tap water not bottled water. 👉 We never got ill although we used to share the same glass of juice with four friends. 👉 We never gained weight although we used to eat a lot of rice ...

The Bridge of "Sorry":

 - The Closed Door and a Quiet "Sorry" A story to remind us the power of sorry: Raj had left his charger bag in the training building earlier. Returning late, he found the main door locked. He knocked repeatedly. Finally, the caretaker, a stern Mr. Verma, opened it, his face tight with annoyance. "What's the commotion?" Mr. Verma grumbled, glancing past Raj at another resident, Ravi, who had been startled by the loud knocking. He'd assumed Raj was trying to barge in. " Mr. Verma, I'm so sorry, " Raj said quickly, his voice sincere. "I didn't mean to disturb anyone with the late knocking." Instantly, Mr. Verma's expression softened. The annoyance faded. "Ah, it's you, Raj. No worries, son. For a moment, I thought you were just being inconsiderate. But that 'sorry'… it makes all the difference, eh?" He offered a small smile, the tension gone. Ravi nodded in agreement. Raj retrieved his bag, the brief moment...

A leader who was not tempted by the fashion or the praise of people:

- A story of ANGELA MERKEL a chancellor of GERMANY when her nation BID FAREWELL to her during end of her term. Judging Others: (Poem)

 - Judging Others: Sadly, we are always critiqued,  By the people that we know.  By title or occupation,  And by the possessions  that we show. We judge by skin colour,  Or by awards received.  By the denomination,  And by what we believe. We're judged by what we spend,  Or by what we give.  We're judged by age and gender,  And by where we live. We're judged by our past,  And by our education,  By the language that we speak,  Or by our nation. We evaluate cosmetically.  We judge both fat and small.  We judge by ones appearance.  Fact is, we judge it all! Some judge because they're paid to.  Some judge intentionally.  Some judge to build self worth,  Some judge unwillingly. BEWARE, for there is only One,  Who evaluates every stain and smudge.  Good luck amateur critics of humans,  When you face that  Wise & Mighty Judge! Source: received through WhatsApp message

A Different Kind of Smart: Nokia's Wary Approach to the Android Ecosystem:

 - Beyond the Simple Narrative: Why Nokia's Android Dilemma Was More Than Just Stubbornness For years, the narrative surrounding Nokia's dramatic fall from mobile phone titan has been simplified to a single, damning sentence: "They should have just switched to Android." While seemingly straightforward in hindsight, this perspective overlooks the complex strategic considerations and valid concerns that likely influenced Nokia's fateful decisions. Diving deeper reveals a story where data privacy and the perceived potential of their own ecosystem played significant roles in their hesitation. The mid-to-late 2000s witnessed a seismic shift in the mobile landscape with the arrival of the iPhone and the burgeoning Android platform. While Apple's sleek design and intuitive software captured consumer hearts, Android, with its open-source nature and Google's backing, quickly gained momentum. Nokia, the reigning champion of the feature phone era, found itself at a c...

Coping with Emotion.

Emotions:       Have you ever observed some of the situations occur in our lives?      Say, you are walking on a road; suddenly a biker comes and lightly hits you, so that your dress gets dusty. How do you react? Shout at him or physically hit him or you keep passive and just walk on the road. Suppose if you beat the biker, you did not have the intention or even think of beating the person, but why did you beat? It is all sudden, because there is always an internal action and reaction process which takes place between our hearts, mind and physical body, which we do not see. Thus in the same kind, emotions also do work within our body and mind. Emotions take many faces as per the situation like, Anger predisposes us to defense or fighting and Fear predisposes us to flight (run away) or fight.      What is Emotion?      Emotions are a complex state of feeling that results in physical and psyc...
