Burnt roti never hurts anyone but HARSH WORDS DO!"

Ex. President Of India Dr. Abdul Kalam Says: "When I was a kid, my Mom cooked food for us. One night she had made dinner after a long hard day's work, Mom placed a plate of 'subzi' and extremely burnt roti in front of my Dad. I was waiting to see if anyone noticed the burnt roti. But Dad just ate his roti and asked me how was my day at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember I heard Mom apologizing to Dad for the burnt roti. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burnt roti." Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy, good night & I asked him if he really liked his roti burnt. He wrapped me in his arms & said: "Your momma put in a long hard day at work today and she was really tired. And besides... A burnt roti never hurts anyone but HARSH WORDS DO!" "You know son - life is full of imperfect things... & imperfect people..." I'M NOT THE BEST & I HAVE LEARNT TO ACCEPT

If you still feel the weight of yesterday’s stress, it’s a strong sign that it’s time to put the glass down:

It’s important to remember to let go of our stresses and worries. No matter what happens during the day, as early in the evening as you can , put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the night and into the next day with you. An interesting short story worth reading. Click to read story from source:

In a difficult conversation once you understand each other’s perspective, you both can turn your efforts to finding a solution:

- Difficult conversations, if respectful and honest, help us create much deeper relationships than if we tiptoe around each other. - A difficult conversation is not a contest with a winner and a loser. Even if you think you’ve won, your relationship with the “loser” will forever be mistrustful and unpleasant. - To have a productive conversation, especially when it is about a past issue, you must be able to let go of judgments. - When we stop communicating, we fill that gap with our own interpretations, insecurities and fear. The art of building a successful and collaborative team:

-  Lindred Greer , an associate professor of organizational behavior at Stanford Graduate School of Business says, a creative and successful team should have members that have different ways of thinking, different backgrounds and styles of work, and different expertise,". Further she comments, "Bring optimists and pessimists together; pair risk-takers with risk-avoiders. In other words, design a team around complementary but distinct attitudes and strengths." - The leader's and followers' vision and mission should be aligned. For this, every team should take part in an orientation in which goals are stated explicitly, benchmarks are established, and responsibilities of each team member are made clear. - For smooth functioning of the team, it's important for a leader to be well informed about happenings in the team. Left alone, small issues become bigger ones, and can disrupt team dynamics.  Click to read full article from source: 'Life skills' b

What it all takes to be innovative:

The first step to problem solving is to believe that there is a solution:

A father left 17 Camels as an Asset for his Three Sons. When the Father passed away, his sons opened up the will. The Will of the Father stated that the Eldest son should get Half of 17 Camels, The Middle Son should be given 1/3rd of 17 Camels, Youngest Son should be given 1/9th of the 17 Camels, As it is not possible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, the sons started to fight with each other. So, they decided to go to a wise man. The wise man listened patiently about the Will. The wise man, after giving this thought, brought one camel of his own & added the same to 17. That increased the total to 18 camels. Now, he started reading the deceased father’s will. Half of 18 = 9. So he gave 9 camels to the eldest son. 1/3rd of 18 = 6. So he gave 6 camels to the middle son. 1/9th of 18 = 2. So he gave 2 camels to the youngest son. Now add this up: 9 + 6 + 2 = 17 & This leaves 1 camel, which the wise man took back. All that you want to know about depression:

Snippets: - Depression is not a sign of personal failure or something to be ashamed of. It does not mean that a person is "crazy." Depression is simply an illness that needs to be treated so that life will once more be enjoyable, purposeful, and worthwhile. - Depression affects a person's thoughts, but it also seems that a person's thoughts can affect depression.  - The best way to help someone with depression is to encourage that person to get professional help. If the depression is severe, encouragement may not be enough, however. It may be necessary to arrange a visit to a health care provider for them. - Treatment for depression depends on its type and severity. There are several approaches that can be used either alone or in combination. Current thinking suggests that medication combined with psychotherapy is the most effective treatment for moderate to severe depression. The medication helps relieve the symptoms of depression, while the psychotherapy helps

Hurdles in life are for good:

-   Once in a physics class, the teacher asked the students, *“Why do we have brakes in a car?”* Varied answers were received: “To stop” “To reduce speed” “To avoid collision” etc., But the best answer was, *“To enable you to drive faster”* Give it a thought. For a moment assume you have no brakes in your car then how fast will you drive your car? It’s because of brakes that we can dare to accelerate, dare to go fast and reach destinations we desire. _At various points in life, we find our parents, teachers, mentors & friends etc. questioning our progress, direction or decision. *We consider them as irritants or consider such inquiries as “brakes” to our ongoing work*._ But, remember, it’s because of such questions (periodical brakes) that you have managed to reach where you are today. Without brakes, you could have skid, lost direction or met with an unfortunate accident. *Appreciate the “brakes” in your life. Use them wisely!* Source: whatsaap message

Tool to understand how people learn and think:

It's very important to understand how people learn and think. It is also helpful in terms of maintaing good relationship with family, friends and peers. It is highly recommended for teachers, coaches, and trainers. To put in a line, it is required for folks who work more with people. It is helpful if we can understand various models of learning and thinking, such as (MBTI)  Myers-Briggs Type Indicators . What is MBTI ? The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator ( MBTI ) is an introspective self-report questionnaire with the purpose of indicating differing psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. Putting guilt on other factors can protect us immediately. The harm is, it closes door for our improvement in long run:

When we are late to the office we tend to blame traffic jam. This gives the satisfaction that we are not responsible for us being late. But when we look deeply into the matter, if the traffic jam has occurred unexpectedly only on a particular day then this can be a valid reason. And on the other hand, if we are late repetitively, then this has to do something with our planning and self-management In general, we try to safeguard ourselves by denying oneself responsible. In the case of city traffic, we put guilt on the city and its traffic and its bad planning. Once you put guilt on the other factors, you feel comfortable immediately. In a real sense, traffic is out of our control, which we cannot solve immediately or we cannot solve it at all. After knowing this, I should have been a more responsible planner. Instead of blaming traffic I should have worked on my planning and work organisation part. This was an example of how blame game happens in our daily life organisation. Imagine t

What makes great organizations great:

Most great organisations are pulling itself to greatness. And one thing we need to agree is they care for their people and also care for the culture in which their employees work in. On the list of organizational priorities, culture often comes last. But research shows if you want to improve results, start by defining, implementing and improving your culture. When people feel appreciated and trust is high, they are more engaged and work better as a team. In turn it improves productivity, service, retention and performance. What is culture? Culture refers to people's 'way of life', the way groups do things. We need to believe that different groups of people may have different cultures. As genetics are passed on by heridity, the culture is passed on to the next generation by learning. The learning which needs culture to be imbibed in to people does not come by formal teaching or training. Yes, the concept of culture could be taught, but actual culture gets on to people&

If I care for you I shall listen to you willingly; I shall listen not only with my ears But also with my heart. I shall listen not only to your words or your thoughts but also to your feelings and experiences; Our level of communication will be very deep. If I care for you, my conversation with you will no more be an exchange of words or dry formality or verbal ping-pong. It will be a deep sharing of ourselves. In this way you release my energies and I release yours; We touch and heal each other; we become more creative in our listening, enriching both the one who speaks and the one who listens. How important a good sleep is:

Want to be a successful leader: Start asking your people 'How can I help you'-

Snippets: - This article will really help you to understand the strategy of cooperation and humbleful coordination at organisation. - By focusing too much on control and end goals, and not enough on people, leaders are making it more difficult to achieve their own desired outcomes. - Rather than telling employees how to do their jobs better, start by asking them how you can help them do their jobs better. The effects of this approach can be powerful. - For this you need to be servant- leader. servant-leaders have the humility, courage, and insight to admit that they can benefit from the expertise of others who have less power than them.  - The original article in the link is by Dan Cable. The least we can do is be patient & kind:

A car ahead was moving like a turtle and not giving me way inspite of my continuous honking! I was on brink of losing my cool when I noticed the small sticker on the car’s rear! “Physically challenged; Please be patient.” And that changed everything!! I immediately went calm & slowed down!! In fact I got a little protective of the car & the driver!!! I reached work a few minutes late, but it was ok! And then it struck me.  Would I have been patient if there was no sticker!???! Why do we need stickers to be patient with people!?? Will we be more patient & kind with others if people had labels pasted on their foreheads?? Labels like —— “ Lost my job” , “Fighting cancer”, “Going through a bad divorce” , “ Suffering Emotional abuse “ , "Lost a loved one”, “Feeling worthless” , “ Financially broken”..... and more like these!!!! Everyone is fighting a battle we know nothing about. The least we can do is be patient & kind!!! Let us respect the invisible labels!!!!

Do you know what makes me happy:

During a class at Fresno Pacific University, a speaker asked one of the spouses in the audience: "Does your husband make you happy?" At this moment, the husband stood up straighter, showing complete confidence. He knew his wife would say yes, because she had never complained about anything during their marriage. However, his wife answered the question with a resounding "No." "No, my husband does not make me happy." The husband was baffled, but his wife continued: "My husband never made me happy, and he does not make me happy. I am happy." "Whether I am happy or not is dependent not on him, but on me. I am the only person on whom my happiness depends. I choose to be happy in every situation and every moment of my life, for if my happiness depended on another person, thing or circumstance, I would be in serious trouble. Everything that exists in this life constantly changes: the human being, the riches, my body, the climate, my boss, t

Adjust your attitude to make things easier in life:

An engineer in a car manufacturing company designs a world class car. The CEO is impressed with the outcome and praised him a lot. While trying to bring out the car from the manufacturing area to the showroom, they realised that the car is 2 inches taller than the entrance. The engineer felt bad that he didn't notice this one before creating the car. The CEO was confused on how to take it outside of the manufacturing area. The painter said that they can bring out the car and there will be a few scratches on top of the car which could be touched up later on. The engineer said that they can break the entrance, take the car out, and later re-do it. The CEO was not convinced with any ideas and felt like it is a bad sign to break or scratch. A Watchman was observing all the drama & slowly approached the CEO.  He wanted to give an idea if they had no problem. They wondered what this guy would tell them that the experts could not give. “ I am rich, fit, and I have mastered almost everything I wanted to master. Why am I still not happy and still not satisfied?”

Question posted in Quora by Anonymous: *Answer by Karim Elsheikh*: “Human happiness (as we know it) is caused by 4 basic chemicals: *Dopamine* *Endorphins* *Serotonin* *Oxytocin* # On your journey to become fit, your body released endorphins to cope with the pain of physical exercise. You probably began to enjoy exercise as you got into it, and the endorphins made you happy - *temporarily*. # On your journey to become rich, you probably completed many tasks and goals. You probably bought all the things you’ve ever wanted. Nice cars, beautiful clothes, and a perfect home. This released dopamine in your brain when you achieved your goals and bought these things, which once again contributed to your happiness - *temporarily*. *So what about the other two chemicals?* It turns out that human happiness is incomplete without all 4 chemicals constantly being released in the brain. So now you need to work on releasing serotonin and oxytocin. “How do I do that, Buddy?” # Serotonin i

Our mind is a sacred enclosure:

Short Story with a Good Moral.! A farmer was taking three of his donkeys for sale to the market. On the way he saw a river and decided to have a dip. Since he had only two ropes to tie the donkeys to a tree, he looked around wondering how to tie the third one. He saw a sage and sought his help if he could give him a rope to tie the third donkey. The sage did not have a rope but had a suggestion. He told the farmer, “let the third donkey see you tying the other two donkeys to a tree. Then you pretend to tie this one also”. The farmer did as he was told and went for a dip in the river. Coming back, he thanked the sage and saw that the donkeys stood exactly at the same spot where he had left them. He untied the two donkeys and patted the third one to start moving. After going a little distance, imagine his surprise when the third donkey stood still at the same spot. Cajoling, kicking or talking did not help with the donkey, refusing to move from the spot. The farmer went back to sage, w
