Emotions:
Have you ever observed some of the situations occur in our lives?
Say, you are walking on a road; suddenly a biker comes and lightly hits you, so that your dress gets dusty. How do you react? Shout at him or physically hit him or you keep passive and just walk on the road. Suppose if you beat the biker, you did not have the intention or even think of beating the person, but why did you beat? It is all sudden, because there is always an internal action and reaction process which takes place between our hearts, mind and physical body, which we do not see. Thus in the same kind, emotions also do work within our body and mind. Emotions take many faces as per the situation like, Anger predisposes us to defense or fighting and Fear predisposes us to flight (run away) or fight.
What is Emotion?
Emotions are a complex state of feeling that results in physical and psychological changes that influence our behavior. And Emotional intelligence (EI/EQ) teaches and assist us how to use and manage our emotions. EI can be defined as the ability of a person to manage, understand, select and work your emotions and those of others with efficiency and generating positive results. When it comes to happiness, success and peace of living in life, the emotional management will act as a key. Studies say that IQ is the 20% of the determinants of success (which means that the remaining 80% depends on other kinds of factors).
Earlier the corporates used to consider IQ (Intelligence quotient) as the foremost criteria to interview a person, now shift has changed to EQ (Emotional quotient). The corporates feel that the employee knowledge can be shaped, sharped and developed through the trainings and practice, but the development of EQ is a tougher job. EQ can be developed through self-awareness, improvement plans, practice and will to change. Thus it is very important part in life to cope with our emotions and also the emotions of others as well.
IQ and EQ are not opposing concepts but only different.
